Santa Fe, NM —Governor Richardson will be signing SB 318 and HB 622 and six other important energy bills into law today at 1:30 p. m. at the Santa Fe Community College.  SB 318 and HB 622 will provide resources for schools, tribes, communities, and businesses to train a local workforce in 21st century green collar trades and attract sustainable green industries to New Mexico.

“These two critical green bills will position New Mexico to lead the nation in the green jobs sector,” says Dr. John Fogarty, Executive Director for New Energy Economy. “The important work starts now.”

HB 622, the Green Jobs Act, will require the Higher Education Department to create a state plan to address the workforce needs of upcoming green industries with the focus of making the programs available to low-income, disadvantaged populations and rural constituencies.

SB 318, Development Training Funds for Green Jobs, will appropriate a minimum of $1 million dollars from Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds to aid green businesses, particularly small businesses, in supporting a new workforce. This bill will promote job creation and economic development by providing appropriate incentives for green industries to bring their businesses into New Mexico.

“We salute Gov. Richardson for signing the New Mexico green bills package into law, adds Fogarty.  “We are now ready to get our workforce trained and look forward to more green business in the Land of Enchantment. New Mexicans can now look forward to new opportunities, new jobs, and a brighter and greener future.”

New Energy Economy is dedicated to creating green jobs, boosting the economy and solving global warming.
