SCI-FI AND FASHION AT THE HARWOOD MUSEUM OF ART
TWO FILMS, TRUNK SHOW, NOV. 4-5

Taos, N.M. - The Harwood Museum of Art and Emerging Cinema presents the 1984 Giorgio Moroder pop-music version of Fritz Lang's 1927 classic "Metropolis," Friday,  Nov. 4,  and "L'amour Fou," a film about the private life of the legendary Yves Saint Laurent, Saturday, Nov. 5, both at 7 p.m. in the Arthur Bell Auditorium. The films will be screened at the state-of-the-art Arthur Bell Auditorium, equipped with a surround sound audio system and high-definition video projection, which opened less than a year ago.

In 1981, three-time Academy Award-winning composer Giorgio Moroder began a three-year endeavor to restore the science fiction classic "Metropolis." Moroder gave the film a new contemporary score and added a pop music soundtrack featuring songs from some of the biggest stars of the MTV era, including Pat Benatar, Billy Squier, Freddie Mercury, Bonnie Tyler, Adam Ant and Jon Anderson. In addition to the new score, missing footage was re-edited into the film, intertitles were removed and replaced with subtitles, and sound effects and color tinting were added. But for more than a quarter century, this version of "Metropolis" has remained out of print - until now. A new HD transfer was created from one of the few remaining prints available, and Kino Lorber is presenting the film in the best possible quality - just as it was seen in its original release in August 1984.

"L'Amour Fou" is a film about the private life of the legendary French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) and his passionate and extravagant life, both publicly and privately, shared by his lover of four decades, Pierre Bergé. "L'Amour Fou" is a French film with English subtitles and is an official selection of the Toronto and TriBeCa Film Festivals. The film is directed by Pierre Thoretton and stars Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. In "L'Amour Fou," Bergé, the man with which YSL shared four decades of his life, reflects on the equally extravagant history of their personal relationship. Framed around the 2009 auction of the priceless art collection amassed over several decades by YSL and Bergé , this extraordinary documentary provides an unprecedented look at the life of a mythic personality whose personal life matched his public for elegance, extravagance and passion.
